2 weeks until competition day

Hi all,

There are now just 2 weeks to go until our competition. Registrations have closed and we’ve ended up with over 40 competitors. The venue is all booked and confirmed (7 courts).

All that remains is a bit of last minute planning by us plus some last minute practice by all the competitors J.

Like any  competition, there are some rules that you need to be aware of and follow. Copy attached to this email. Please read and heed them.

Because we are holding the competition on the Sunday, we will not be holding our normal session the day after (Monday evening).

Cheers, Bill

Badminton on tomorrow AND final competition registration reminder

Hi all,

Firstly, badminton is on as normal tomorrow night. Please come along and work off some of those extra calories consumed over the long weekend.

Secondly, we extended the registration closing date for our 2017 competition to 2nd October, but that extra time has almost run out (and we can’t give any further extensions). Registrations close tomorrow evening (after our Monday night session).

So, this is the last chance to get your registrations in.

  • Date: Our 2017 club competitionwill be held on Sunday 22nd October, at our new venue in Botany.
  • Time: 10am to 6pm.
  • Closing: Registrations will close on Monday 2nd October.
  • Payment together with your registration form is required (if you intend to pay via EFT, please note this on the registration form).

Cheers for now,
Bill

2017 Internal Competition Final Reminder

Hi all,

There’s only a few days to go before registrations close for our 2017 competition.

So please get your registrations in now.

  • Date: Our 2017 club competitionwill be held on Sunday 22nd October, at our new venue in Botany.
  • Time: 10am to 6pm.
  • Closing: Registrations will close on Monday 25th September. The closing date is quite early this time because, in the case of insufficient competitor numbers, we need to give the venue people adequate notice of cancellation (but we hope this won’t happen).
  • Payment together with your registration form is required (if you intend to pay via EFT, please note this on the registration form).

Cheers for now,
Bill

Monday Night Attendance and Competition

Hi all,

I know that the cold has kept some people at home on Monday nights, but now that we are officially in Spring time, how about braving the elements and coming along to badminton (you’d be surprised how quick you warm up J).

Also, please try and get your competition registration forms ASAP (to help us with our planning).

  • Date: Our 2017 club competition will be held on Sunday 22nd October, at our new venue in Botany.
  • Time: We are looking at 2 possible time slots: Either 10am to 6pm, or 12pm to 8pm. If you have a preference on the time slot, please reply to this email within the next 1 week (majority rules).

Our First Night at the New Venue

Hi all,

Well, after almost 10 years, we have played our first session at a new venue, and do you know what? I think it was pretty good J.

But I’m just one person. What do you think? If you played at Botany last night, let me know what YOU thought.

I received various comments last night, mostly positive, but the most asked question was “are the courts smaller”? Personally, I doubt it, but I don’t know for sure. A couple of our members also play at Tempe on other days – maybe one of them could measure and compare the court sizes? Regardless, the Botany courts will be based on international badminton standards.

Personally, getting used to the non-slip surface was hardest for me, but I got used to it by the end of the night. And I guess other people found other things a bit different.

But like anything, we will all get used to the differences and adapt. The important thing is that we now have a long term booking for Monday nights only, so no more Sundays. And, no more netballers, volleyball or soccer lines, nets, or clashes J.

Anyway, fell free to respond to this email with your thoughts, comments or suggestions.

Cheers for now,

Bill

Update for New Venue – Please Read!

Hi all,

Tomorrow evening is our first play session at the new venue. Here are some things that will help:

MAPS, PHOTOS, PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Our website has been updated with this stuff. Please go to our about page to view it.

ARRIVAL TIME

Because it’s our first time, please try to arrive a bit earlier than usual, so that you can check out the centre before play commences (toilets, etc, etc).

PARKING

After entering the driveway (there is a big “VICTOR” sign at the entrance), drive all the way to the rear to find parking.

·         We are likely to be arriving earlier than other groups, so avoid parking on the north side or you might get blocked in – it is double parking (cars parking behind other cars).

OUR COURTS

We have 7 out of the 14 courts at the venue. As you walk in, our courts are on the left hand side (we plan to stick a notice on the wall showing court numbers, etc).

THE COMPUTER AND MONEY COLLECTION

We will be set up on a table on the left hand side in the sitting area. Please pay there and get entered into the computer as usual.

NEW SESSION COST

As previously mentioned, the member cost is now $15 (up from $12 previously). Non-members are $18. Again, try to bring correct money if possible.

BE PATIENT

This is very important. We are sure to have some teething problems on our first night, so I ask that everyone be patient while we sort things out.

CALLING OUT NAMES & COURTS

When each game finishes (when the alarm goes off), please return to the sitting area quickly.

·         We will not be “shouting out” court assignments for the next game because we don’t want to disturb the other groups.

WARM-UP SHUTTLES

There are white bins located between the courts. These are for “warm-up” shuttles, and the shuttles are free for all groups to use (we will also bring some warm-up shuttles of our own just in case).

·         Please put your used shuttles into these bins. Rubbish shuttles will be regularly removed and disposed of by the centre staff.

·         Please make sure you bring any good shuttles back to the sitting area).

That’s it for now folks.

Last Session at Temp Tomorrow

Hi all,

This is just a final reminder that tomorrow (Monday 29th May), will be our LAST session to be played at Tempe.

Starting next week (Monday 5th June), we will be playing at the new venue at Botany. Full details, times, maps, etc are on our website.

We only have contact details for current and past members, so if you have any friends (non-members) who only play occasionally, can you please let them know.

Cheers for now,
