Sydney Shuttles 2019 Internal Club Competition

Hi all,

We will be holding our internal club competition on Saturday 12th October this year (10,00am to 6.00pm).

This competition is open to current and previous members only of our club (plus any members from our sister clubs who might be in Sydney at the time).

We have scheduled our competition to take place 2 weeks before the 2019 Trans-Tasman tournament (in Melbourne), so that anyone playing in the T-T can get some good practice.

For those of you who have not entered one of our internal competitions before, it is a chance to play and compete against people you already know. These days are normally great fun.

We will keep you informed as we get nearer to the date.

Registration forms will be available soon. For now, please put this date in your diaries.

Xmas Party & T-T Gallery

Hi all,

Firstly, just a reminder that our Xmas Party will be held on Sunday 9th December. Please let us know ASAP if you are coming.

Secondly, we’ve put a copy of the Trans-Tasman results and photos on our website (much the same as we recently posted on Facebook). Just click on the Galleries tab on our Home Page and follow your nose.

2018 Trans-Tasman Update

Hi all,

We’ve been getting quite a few questions about when registrations will be opening for the 2018 Trans-Tasman tournament is Sydney.

Well, we have been busy setting things up over recent weeks and we are nearly ready. In fact, we expect to be going “live” in a few more days.

So, get ready to register. Have you thought about who you will want to partner with?

Check your email for more news in the coming days.

2018 Trans-Tasman Tournament, Sydney

Hi again all,

Even more important than the Australian Badminton Open is the 2018 Trans-Tasman Tournament.

This year, we are hosting the tournament here in Sydney, on Saturday 20th October 2018 (at our Botany venue).

The courts have been booked and our sister clubs in Melbourne and New Zealand have been notified.

Soon, we will have an online booking system up and running, but for now, please book this date into your diaries.

We’re expecting a lot of our members to be participating in the competition, but we’ll also be looking for a good number of our members to come along to help us out on the day.

That’s it for now. More details will be coming soon.

New President for Sydney Shuttles

Hi all,

For those who were at the Xmas party on Sunday, or came to last night’s session, you will now know that I have stepped down as President of Sydney Shuttles Badminton Club and am in the process of handing things over to our new president, Daniel Small.

Firstly, it is never easy taking over a role such as this, so please give Daniel all the support and help that you can.

Secondly, I thought it would be nice if I explained things a bit more.

I have been president since April of 2009 (8 ½ years), and whilst not as long as my predecessor’s time, it’s still a long time. And it’s been a time that’s seen a lot of ups and downs, from court hire dramas, battles with netballers, introduction of the game picking software, introduction of memberships and BNSW affiliation, creation of a website, plus the development of systems to help make things run a bit easier.

But, these days, I’m spending long periods overseas, struggling to find time to do the other things in my life, and, I guess,  getting a bit older (eek). Suffice to say, it’s time for me to put my feet up a bit J.

Does this mean that I don’t want to be involved with the running of the club anymore? Not at all. Sydney Shuttles became a part of my life within a week of my moving to Sydney from Perth many years ago, and I will continue being a part of it, and continue to contribute to its ongoing success.

Being president of Sydney Shuttles has been an absolute pleasure for me. Being part of an LGBTI club that has been around for over 20 years is a great feeling. But, more importantly, Sydney Shuttles is family. I’ve made friends, watched other people make friends, seen relationships develop. What more could I ask for J.

I will be heading overseas again on 22nd Dec for 2 months, but hope to see you all at baddo next Monday night (our last session for the year).

Cheers for now,
(Outgoing President)
