For those who were at the Xmas party on Sunday, or came to last night’s session, you will now know that I have stepped down as President of Sydney Shuttles Badminton Club and am in the process of handing things over to our new president, Daniel Small.
Firstly, it is never easy taking over a role such as this, so please give Daniel all the support and help that you can.
Secondly, I thought it would be nice if I explained things a bit more.
I have been president since April of 2009 (8 ½ years), and whilst not as long as my predecessor’s time, it’s still a long time. And it’s been a time that’s seen a lot of ups and downs, from court hire dramas, battles with netballers, introduction of the game picking software, introduction of memberships and BNSW affiliation, creation of a website, plus the development of systems to help make things run a bit easier.
But, these days, I’m spending long periods overseas, struggling to find time to do the other things in my life, and, I guess, getting a bit older (eek). Suffice to say, it’s time for me to put my feet up a bit J.
Does this mean that I don’t want to be involved with the running of the club anymore? Not at all. Sydney Shuttles became a part of my life within a week of my moving to Sydney from Perth many years ago, and I will continue being a part of it, and continue to contribute to its ongoing success.
Being president of Sydney Shuttles has been an absolute pleasure for me. Being part of an LGBTI club that has been around for over 20 years is a great feeling. But, more importantly, Sydney Shuttles is family. I’ve made friends, watched other people make friends, seen relationships develop. What more could I ask for J.
I will be heading overseas again on 22nd Dec for 2 months, but hope to see you all at baddo next Monday night (our last session for the year).
Cheers for now,
Sydney Shuttles Badminton Club
